Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as the name suggests is getting a good ranking when searched for in reputed search engines like Google, Yahoo & Bing. Everyone wants their websites ranked higher on the search engine result page whenever someone searches for their product or service. The earlier & more frequently a website appears in the search results list; the visibility of the website increases thus resulting in more number of hits by the visitors. More the number of hits, the prospect of the hits turning into revenue become high.
Most of the web designers design the websites keeping in mind just the design appeal and ignore the more important issue of getting listed in the search engines when searched for their related line of product & service. The designers give more importance to the visual look & feel & try to attract the visitors by adding more animations & graphics, videos & ignore to add the text content, as they feel that people read very little content & find the visual content more attractive.
They fail to understand that more text rich is the website with appropriate content; the more it will be read and indexed by the search engines. A beautifully designed website, without too many hits becomes useless. Websites are designed to make people across the world aware of the products / services rendered by the companies. It is mainly designed for people who do not know the company’s activities rather than the ones who already know them. In this case, they are mainly dependant on the search engines listing them high, because any unknown person will rely on the search engine results more than anything else. A general notion is if the ranking of a website is high, the company must be reliable and thus registers immediately in the mind of the visitor. Another very important reason of the high listing in search engines is that the visitors normally get what they look for in the first page itself, and are very impatient to follow the results on the subsequent pages while making a search.
From internet marketing strategy standpoint, SEO considers the way search engines work, what people search, keywords, key phrases, which search engine is preferred over another etc. The results in the search engines are of two types; paid / sponsored and unpaid /free. The sponsored results are shown on the right hand side of the search results and are not dependant on the content of the website, but on how well has the campaign been designed and also the bid amount for each click on the advertisement. The free listing on the other hand is totally opposite, and is dependent on how much informative the website is about the products / services mentioned within it. The search engines give a lot of priority to the content of a website before indexing it in their search results. Optimizing the website involves editing the HTML code of the pages within the website, increasing the relevance to specific keywords, increase back links, inbound links etc.
